THE RESEARCH
Early surveys and informal conversations with people in my network explored what made choosing a destination difficult. A recurring theme was disagreement within groups, particularly when travel preferences and budgets differed. I also invited people to try early prototypes as I developed the app.
THE INSIGHT
A shared trip doesn’t always start with shared expectations. Before agreeing on a destination, people need to find common ground on what they want—and what they can spend.
THE RESPONSE
A playful travel quiz that brings individual preferences into a shared recommendation, with budget and region setting the boundaries.
Dream within reach.
Region and budget come first, so the quiz suggests possibilities within the boundaries users set.
Find common ground.
Solo and group modes support different ways of deciding. Group results balance shared preferences and explain why a destination was suggested.
Less planning. More instinct.
Questions focus on experiences and everyday choices, making preferences easier to express.
An old idea. A new way to build it.
I first developed GEA at university using JavaScript and a points-based quiz. This version revisits that concept with a redesigned experience and AI-assisted prototyping.
I defined the audience, user journeys, questions, matching rules, visual direction and interface copy, using AI to help implement and iterate on the working prototype.
GEA is an independent prototype. The next step is testing whether its recommendations help people reach a decision and where the experience needs refining.
